Remove Dr. LaTanya Sothern from Principal Position
The Issue
As a member of the Prince George's County community, I have personally witnessed the detrimental effects of Dr. LaTanya Sothern’s leadership at our local school. Her abusive tactics and toxic leadership style have created an environment of fear and distrust among both staff and parents. Teachers feel threatened and unsafe, parents are dismissed when raising valid concerns, and our children endure unnecessary stress due to this unstable and hostile environment. The morale among staff members is at an all-time low, leading to an exodus of qualified, passionate teachers. This departure of talented educators further impacts the quality of education and stability essential for our children’s development. Families are losing trust in the school system as they encounter intimidation, a lack of accountability, and unethical practices from someone who should be their advocate. Parents and school employees have raised concerns regarding an unsafe educational environment and the retaliatory nature of Dr. Sothern. Instead of fostering a supportive and respectful atmosphere conducive to learning and growth, her leadership has perpetuated a cycle of abuse and mistrust. It is vital for the wellbeing of our students and the integrity of our schools that these practices do not persist. It is no longer acceptable to remain silent in the face of such misconduct. We must stand together to voice our demand for change. Removing Dr. LaTanya Sothern from her role as principal is a crucial step towards restoring the trust and safety our families and children deserve.
