REMOVE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE THUG FROM COUNCIL

REMOVE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE THUG FROM COUNCIL

The issue

Port Stephens Mayor Bruce MacKenzie smashed his wife's face into bathroom tiles and he head butted her. He copped a 12-month AVO for the attack that he explained away as a "misunderstanding".
The RED HEART Campaign is calling on NSW Premier Mike Baird and NSW Local Government Minister Paul Toole to sack him.
Domestic violence abusers do not deserve to hold public office in Australia and they do not deserve to lead communities. Our cities and towns need strong ethical leaders who respect women in every way. Anyone who beats their wives, kids or any woman should feel the repercussions for the rest of their lives - they should not be put on a pedestal! By remaining mayor and a councillor, this man is making a mockery of every woman in Australia who has been killed by a family member. It also makes survivors and victims feel like our country rewards abusers! We don't honour child terrorists so why should we honour domestic violence perpetrators by anointing them mayor?

Since January 1, 2016, more than 65 women have been murdered in Australia and most of those killings were allegedly committed by abusive male family members. About one in three Australian women will experience violence at the hands of men in their lifetime, statistics show.

the NSW Goverment must act - for the sake of every victim and survivor in Australia. Inaction and silence condone domestic violence.
