Remove Dangerous Bike Lanes in Brighton Park & Build a Real River Trail Instead

Remove Dangerous Bike Lanes in Brighton Park & Build a Real River Trail Instead
The Issue
We demand the immediate removal of the recently installed dangerous bike lane obstructions from our streets in Brighton Park. Main roads must be restored to two travel lanes in each direction to ensure safety and efficient traffic flow for residents and businesses.
Building on the recent petition that gathered over 3,400 signatures from concerned drivers and residents, we strongly support the construction of a dedicated, safe pedestrian and bicycle trail along the Chicago River. This includes converting the abandoned BNSF rail corridor (El Paseo Trail) and closing the South Branch riverfront gaps to create a continuous, protected route connecting Chicago’s Lakefront Trail to the Centennial Trail to Starved Rock State Park.
This common-sense approach removes unsafe street-level bike infrastructure, restores vital road capacity, and delivers a proper, separated recreational trail system that benefits cyclists, pedestrians, and the entire community without compromising safety or mobility.
We urge Alderman Julia Ramirez (12th Ward), the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT), and Mayor Brandon Johnson to take action: Remove the dangerous bike lane barriers in Brighton Park and prioritize the dedicated Chicago River Trail connection.
