Remove Dan Kilmer from office of Town Councilman, Town of Grand Island, NY
The Issue
As a resident of Grand Island, NY, I am deeply concerned about the integrity and fairness of our local government. Recently, a troubling incident involving our Town Councilman, Dan Kilmer, has come to light. Dan Kilmer attempted to manipulate his elected position for personal financial gain by trying to reject the new property assessment, citing his dissatisfaction with his own assessment. Such actions are in direct violation of the duties and responsibilities entrusted to him by our community.
The Town Board, in a bid to ensure fair taxation, approved a reassessment project. This initiative was grounded in the belief that commercial properties were significantly underpaying taxes. However, upon presenting the data, the findings contradicted the initial assumption, revealing that certain residential properties, including Mr. Kilmer's, were actually underpaying. This attempt to thwart the reassessment project highlights a breach of trust and misuse of power that cannot be tolerated.
Our elected officials are meant to serve the community's best interests, not exploit their positions to enrich themselves at the expense of ethical governance. Mr. Kilmer’s actions represent a grave conflict of interest and show a disregard for the principled standards we expect from our leaders.
Dan Kilmer has a well documented history of unprofessional behavior with employees in his current elected position and with his past positions.
It is imperative for the integrity of Grand Island’s governmental body that Councilman Dan Kilmer be removed from office.
