Trigger Warning: The materials linked below contain descriptions of teacher/student sexual misconduct and rape that may be triggering or distressing.

We are concerned community members, parents and caregivers of current and former students of Meadowdale Elementary School (MDE) in the Edmonds School District (ESD). We trusted that the school administration would prioritize the safety and well-being of all students and staff. Unfortunately, this trust has been profoundly broken by the repeated actions -- and lack of action -- of Principal Dan Davis.

Far from a one-time event, the multitudinous accounts our students and their families can share about how they have suffered under Mr. Davis' abhorrent leadership is nothing short of heartbreaking. He continually operates outside of the disciplinary guidelines set by the ESD Discipline Matrix.

One of the most distressing issues involves a male teacher at MDE who has allegedly sexually assaulted and harassed not only staff members, but also multiple students. Lynnwood Police Department criminal investigation 2024-00014684 has been made available through public records requests and can be reviewed here. We are stunned that we were not informed by Mr. Davis or the ESD that our children were exposed to an alleged sexual predator who reportedly engaged in repeated and obvious grooming behavior, and that the complaints of his conduct at MDE did not disqualify him from being hired at Meadowdale High School as an IEP teacher from 2025-2026. Principal Dan Davis and HR employee Roger Jordan failed in their primary responsibility to maintain a safe learning and work environment on multiple occasions. For many families at MDE, we are only just now learning about these allegations due to public comments made during recent school board meetings which are viewable here, here, and here.

We demand accountability from the Edmonds School District for:

● failing to take effective measures to address the complaints of students, their families, and MDE staff, who have long expressed concern about Mr. Davis' leadership, including his failure to report/prevent bullying and to follow district disciplinary guidelines,

● failing to protect children from alleged sexual touching and rape,

● failing to protect employees from alleged sexual touching, sexual harassment, and retaliation,

● failing to act on numerous complaints from multiple concerned staff members of misconduct,
obvious grooming behavior, and clearly inappropriate workplace conduct,

● failing to notify parents of these events so they could make decisions about next appropriate
steps for their children.

We stand with MDE staff who persistently reported the male teacher's conduct to MDE Principal Dan Davis as their supervisor. It was a former staff member who made the initial police report due to her concerns. We are aware that some MDE staff were so desperate, they contacted select parents of children they were concerned for on their own.

The Edmonds School District is known for its commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for all. Under Mr. Davis’s leadership at Meadowdale Elementary, this commitment has been seriously compromised. Victim blaming and the failure to address critical issues head-on have no place in our community or our schools.

It is vital for the safety and well-being of our children and staff that swift action be taken to remove Dan Davis from his role as principal. We urge the Edmonds School District to conduct a thorough review of his conduct, management practices, and adherence to district policies. This review must lead to meaningful changes that restore trust among parents, students, and staff members. Mr. Davis should, at minimum, be placed on administrative leave and barred from the premises while any review is ongoing.

Our children deserve an environment where they feel safe and supported, and where their voices are truly heard. We must call upon the Edmonds School District to act now to ensure that the standards of safety and integrity are upheld at Meadowdale Elementary.

Our expectations of ESD and the Edmonds School Board are as follows:

1. We demand that Principal Dan Davis be removed from his role at Meadowdale Elementary School immediately.

2. We demand a detailed and public explanation for inaction by the Edmonds School District when the male teacher's conduct came to the attention of the district.

3. We demand that ESD work with law enforcement to help identify other victims who attended Meadowdale Elementary School during this teacher's tenure, as some are now in high school. Statistics show that most victims of sexual abuse never come forward to report their victimization. We demand that you make this incident public. The male teacher worked at a number of other schools in the region. Children who were exposed to this teacher at school may have exhibited signs of victimization at the time, but parents may not have had the context to recognize these signs.

4. We demand that, when interviewing for a new permanent principal at MDE begins to take place, parents be allowed to meet candidates and ask questions in a town hall forum with the option to submit questions. We believe this will be an essential step towards healing and healthy collaboration, which has been missing under Mr. Davis' administration.

Please join us in demanding accountability and change. Sign this petition to remove Dan Davis as principal of Meadowdale Elementary and help create a safer and more supportive school environment for our students and staff.
