The Issue

My daughter, a dedicated and loving mother, now faces the unimaginable plight of handing over her three-and-a-half-month-old baby to a father who virtually remains a stranger to her infant. This is no ordinary custody battle but a travesty of justice exacerbated by Judge Jean Cotton's inexplicable bias. Judge Cotton's pattern of siding with abusers is undeniably troubling. Instead of recognizing my daughter's commitment and capability in providing a safe home for her child, Judge Cotton berated her, dismissing her concerns and experiences entirely.

The father, who showed little interest prior and during the pregnancy other then to bully her causing risky pregnancy, has proven to be unwilling to pay child support or engage actively in his child’s life meaningfully. His involvement seems to stem from a place of manipulation and control rather than genuine paternal care. Despite his documented history of alcohol abuse, nightly drinking & 2 previous dui's, Judge Cotton's ruling has forced my daughter to hand over her baby for seven consecutive days at a time to a man more obsessed with legal maneuvers and avoiding financial support than fatherly love.

This isn't an isolated incident. Reports from various custody cases under Judge Cotton's jurisdiction in Montesano reveal a disturbing trend of bias against the more responsible parent. We cannot allow our children’s futures to be dictated by a legal system that fails to uphold their best interests. When justice tilts towards enabling abusers, it’s not just my grandchild at stake but countless others subjected to unwarranted upheaval.

Immediate action is necessary. We demand the removal of Judge Jean Cotton from deciding any child custody cases until a thorough investigation into her biased judgments is conducted. Families seeking justice should not fear the courtrooms meant to protect them. Let’s come together to safeguard our community’s children from those unfit to rule.

Sign this petition to ensure that our children are placed in households that are genuinely safe and nurturing. It's time for accountability and fair justice for all families in Montesano, WA.
