Remove Common Core Math Requirements in Oklahoma Public Schools
The Issue
As a concerned parent in Oklahoma, I am deeply troubled by the current Common Core math requirements imposed on our public schools. It is my firm belief that these requirements should be removed to provide a more inclusive and effective education system for our children.
I have personally experienced the frustrations and challenges that come with Common Core math. Like many parents, I have found it incredibly difficult to assist my children with their homework due to the complex and convoluted methods taught under this curriculum. This has led me to make the difficult decision of homeschooling my kids, as their school would not accept work completed using traditional methods.
It is important to note that while Common Core math may be presented as an alternative method, it should not be the sole accepted approach in our educational system. Requiring parents to re-learn math just to help their children with homework is both unreasonable and unrealistic.
Furthermore, there are numerous concerns regarding the effectiveness of Common Core math. Studies have shown that this curriculum often leads to confusion among students, hindering their mathematical understanding rather than enhancing it (Source: National Review). Additionally, research suggests that standardized test scores have not significantly improved since implementing Common Core (Source: The Heritage Foundation).
By removing these restrictive requirements from our public schools, we can empower teachers and parents alike with greater flexibility in teaching mathematics. This will allow for a more personalized approach tailored to each student's needs while ensuring they receive a comprehensive education.
I urge you all to join me in signing this petition calling for the removal of Common Core math requirements in Oklahoma's public schools. Together, we can advocate for an educational system that prioritizes clarity, simplicity, and academic success without burdening parents or limiting learning opportunities.
Let us stand united against this flawed approach and demand change for the betterment of our children's future!
Thank you for your support.
