Remove CK-Express from HBUHSD School Chromebooks

The Issue

Recently, school-issued Chromebooks in the Huntington Beach Union High School District have been equipped with a firewalling/monitoring software.

CK-Express follows HBUHSD's trend of installing third-party management software onto school Chromebooks to regulate web use, and while helpful in some regard, has begun to genuinely hinder HBUHSD students in their ability to use their devices in learning environments.

Starting early in the 2024-2025 school year, students in the HBUHSD district schools would discover a common error where CK-Express would fail to load, barring them from using school endorsed (and often required) online resources like Google. This error has heavily impacted the efficiency and effectiveness of digital learning, and has been frustrating students to the point where many decide to lean more on personal devices ---defeating the point of web monitoring.

It is also important to note that these third-party add-ons often slow down the already sluggish operating speeds of school issued technology, and for those that have no other option but to use this tech, these extensions do nothing but slow down their workflow and can even make these devices completely obsolete.

By signing this petition, you are helping student's voices and concerns to be heard. Individual complaints against administrative staff have been fruitless, so the concentrated effort of the community and school body is now the best option.

Help our students learn, without obstacles.
