The Issue
The green accessibility pass at Cedar Point, intended to assist guests with disabilities, is creating barriers rather than dissolving them. I have witnessed firsthand how this system forces groups to separate, as the pass requires members of the group to remain in the main line while the member with a disability leaves the line or remains outside the line. This prevents families and groups of friends from waiting together and spending time together as they came to the park planning to do.
Cedar Point, located in Sandusky, Ohio, is one of the most famous amusement parks in the world, welcoming millions of visitors annually. Among these visitors are families and groups from all walks of life, some of whom include individuals with disabilities. Unfortunately, the green pass system is failing to provide an inclusive and enjoyable experience for these individuals and their companions.
The separation caused by the green pass defies the very nature of theme parks, which thrive on creating shared experiences and cherished memories. Families and friends should not be divided on account of an accessibility program that is meant to offer convenience and joy to guests requiring accommodations. The stress and frustration of being isolated from loved ones only serve to exacerbate the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities.
A more inclusive and family-friendly approach must be enacted to ensure that all visitors can enjoy Cedar Point equally. Alternative measures, such as group line queuing for families or friends of those with disabilities, or increased staff training to handle unique situations, are necessary. It is vital to reassess the current accessibility program to align with the core values of inclusion, dignity, and fun that Cedar Point strives to promote.
Cedar Point has the opportunity to be a leader in accessibility by providing a holistic approach that caters to the needs of all its guests. By removing the green pass or significantly modifying its application, the park can ensure every individual, regardless of their physical capabilities, can create joyful and lasting memories with their loved ones.
Sign this petition to urge Cedar Point management to reevaluate their accessibility program and adopt fairer and more inclusive solutions for all visitors.
