My journey to find a local animal shelter where I could volunteer led me to the troubling reality at the Caddo Parish Animal Shelter. With over 130 reviews, the shelter holds a 2.7-star rating, with the 1-star reviews completely outweighing the 5-star reviews. Evidently, the majority of these negative reviews have surfaced since Travis Clark assumed the role of director. It's an obvious contrast to the positive feedback the shelter received prior to his occupation.

These reviews talk about the selfishness of the employees, the lack of care and responsibility, and the lowest quality of communication. Not even a month into his position as director, a lawsuit was filed against him for the treatment of both employees and animals. Employees had their payroll abused, worked hours that excessed the hours they were hired to work, and had people with higher authority telling employees not to report anything.

The most alarming issues include frequent reports of underfeeding, overcrowding, and an overall disregard for established animal welfare protocols. It has been stressed that Travis euthanizes however many animals he wants, whenever he wants, without asking. And for those looking at animals to adopt, they aren't told that whoever they're looking at is going to be euthanized until it's too late. From my research, I am convinced that Travis Clark being in the position to oversee this shelter has directly led to the unacceptable care of animals and the irresponsibility and negligence of the staff.

I propose that an inspection be conducted on the current practices at Caddo Parish Animal Services. This should include investigating the numerous complaints documented by the public, interviewing current and former employees, and assessing the viability of current management practices and their adherence to animal welfare standards. Following the inspection, implement a leadership change to ensure a shift to humane and sustainable operations.
