We, the undersigned residents and community members of Woodbury, Minnesota, formally request the immediate removal of all Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) surveillance cameras, commonly known as Flock Safety cameras, from our public streets.While we support public safety initiatives, we believe the widespread implementation of mass surveillance infrastructure compromises our fundamental right to privacy, creates significant data security risks, and shifts public resources away from more transparent, community-centered safety measures.We voice the following core concerns:Mass Surveillance: These cameras continuously track and log the movements of law-abiding citizens without reasonable suspicion or a warrant, creating an unnecessary dragnet of local travel history.Data Privacy Risks: Storing sensitive location and vehicle data in third-party cloud databases exposes residents to potential data leaks, cybersecurity threats, and unauthorized tracking.Lack of Public Input: The decision to blanket our city with surveillance tech should require comprehensive public discourse, voter input, and clear regulatory oversight rather than unilateral public safety adoption.Therefore, we urge the Woodbury City Council to dismantle the existing ALPR camera network, cease future contracts with mass surveillance technology vendors, and enact strict municipal ordinances prohibiting automated vehicle tracking on public roads.
