This petition begins with a personal story. As a survivor of sexual assault and a person of Mexican descent, I am appalled and hurt by the content produced by Ashley Trevino on TikTok. Her videos not only personally affront me, but also, the entire TikTok community. Her actions include making fun of victims of sexual assault, promoting racism, and displaying openly sexual behavior. This behavior poses a real harm. According to a study by the National Institute of Justice, survivors of sexual assault are more likely to experience depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and substance abuse issues, and even contemplate suicide (National Institute of Justice). When individuals like Trevino make light of such serious issues, it adds an additional layer of distress to the already intense emotional trauma survivors undergo. Furthermore, her racial comments perpetuate discrimination while flaunting an abusive behavior on a platform popular among young people which might normalize such actions in their minds. This petition aims to have TikTok remove Ashley Trevino's account for her harmful and indecent behavior. We call on TikTok to take a stand against such content and make their platform a safe space for users of all backgrounds and experiences.
