Remove Argentina as a host venue for the 2030 FIFA World Cup
The Issue

As a lifelong football supporter, I was deeply disappointed by Argentina's conduct during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The tournament should represent the very best of football—sportsmanship, respect, integrity, and unity. Instead, several incidents involving the Argentine team overshadowed the football itself and left many supporters questioning whether those values were upheld.
The display of a political banner following the semi-final against England was particularly inappropriate. The FIFA World Cup is a global celebration of sport and should unite people from every nation, regardless of politics or historical disputes. International football should never become a platform for political messaging, especially during the world's biggest sporting event.
The World Cup exists to bring nations together through fair competition and mutual respect. By allowing a nation whose participation in the 2026 tournament became the subject of significant controversy to host one of the symbolic centenary matches in 2030, FIFA risks sending the message that such conduct is compatible with the values it seeks to promote. The honour of hosting a centenary match should be reserved for a nation that reflects the spirit of the tournament without controversy.
Media outlets, including the BBC and The Guardian, reported extensively on the political-banner controversy and the reaction it generated among supporters, governments and football observers. Regardless of individual opinions, the incident demonstrated how quickly politics can overshadow the game itself. The centenary of the FIFA World Cup should be remembered for football—not for controversy.
For these reasons, I respectfully urge FIFA to reconsider Argentina's role as a host venue for the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Instead, I ask FIFA to award the centenary match scheduled for Argentina to Uruguay.
No country is more deserving of this honour. Uruguay hosted the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930 and occupies a unique place in football history. Holding the centenary match in Uruguay would pay tribute to the birthplace of the World Cup while keeping the focus on the game's heritage, unity, and enduring legacy.
