Amid the lively buzz of Bourbon Street at Mango Mango Daiquiris (201 Bourbon Street), turtles seem to endure abysmal conditions unfit for any living being. Bourbon Street, famous for its vibrant nightlife and cultural allure in the heart of New Orleans, isn't the right habitat for these animals. Watching turtles trapped in confined spaces, deprived of their natural environment, is not only heartbreaking but also raises ethical and physical concerns:

  • Possible inadequate space
  • Possible lack of temperature control
  • Possible improper lighting or filtration
  • Possible chronic stress due to noise and handling
  • General signs of poor welfare

Turtles are majestic creatures meant to thrive in vast, clean waters, not languish in captivity on bustling streets. Countless studies have highlighted the detrimental impact such confinement has on their health, causing stress and a reduced lifespan. These creatures deserve a life befitting their nature, surrounded by natural beauty, not by blaring music and throngs of tourists.

For the good of the animals, and to uphold humane treatment, I am urging the responsible authorities to intervene. Relocation of these turtles and any other captive animals can be a responsible and ethically uplifting action. Sanctuaries dedicated to wildlife rehabilitation are ready alternatives where turtles can live freely under conditions that mimic their natural habitats.

I call on the residents of New Orleans, animal rights advocates, and tourists who treasure human and animal welfare, to support this cause. With collective action, we can urge businesses and local authorities to prioritize humane practices and ensure that Bourbon Street is a space respectful of life in all its forms.

Please sign this petition to help relocate these turtles from Mango Mango Daiquiris (201 Bourbon Street) to healthier environments they rightly deserve. Join me in being a voice for the voiceless and ensuring a future where the charm of Bourbon Street doesn't come at the cost of these animals' well-being.

What we are asking for:

  • Investigate the conditions in which these turtles are being kept.
  • Determine whether state wildlife laws or animal-welfare standards are being violated.
  • Ensure the animals are relocated, improved, or removed if conditions do not meet legal requirements.
