Dear Mayor Justin Elicker,

We, residents of Ward 28 and beyond, are petitioning for the resignation of Alder Tom Ficklin. We are deeply concerned regarding his actions and conduct during his tenure in office. 

On October 9th, Alder Tom Ficklin was seen in front of New Haven city hall at a “yaleies4palestine” rally whose stated intent on social media post was to ”celebrate” the recent murderous rampage of Hamas in Israel.

 Hamas is a designated terrorist organization, and the actions of Hamas have been condemned by President Joe Biden and Senator Richard Blumenthal. Hamas has killed and kidnapped American citizens. Alders Ficklin’s support for the political leadership of gleeful terrorists is unforgivable, occuring only one day after the mass murder of innocent civilians. Rather than spending his time fighting crime and urban blight, he chose to support terrorists.

Alder Ficklin is also quoted as saying "Israel is a myth.” We believe this Alder is not fit to represent a ward with a significant orthodox Jewish population, particularly with regard to the safety needs of a visible Jewish community. This is an affront to all peace loving people regardless of religion, color or national origin. 

It is with regret that we, the undersigned, submit this petition, signed by concerned citizens of New Haven, to request the removal of Alder Tom Ficklin from his position.
