Remove Aggressive Handraised Emu from Parklands Conservation Park

Remove Aggressive Handraised Emu from Parklands Conservation Park
The issue
We respectfully request the removal and relocation of a known aggressive hand raised emu that poses a serious threat to the safety of horse riders, their animals, park visitors, including children and cyclists.
BACKGROUND
Multiple incidents have been reported involving a hand raised emu displaying aggressive and territorial behaviour, particularly towards horses and riders . It was hand raised on an adjacent horse property and they dumped it and left. Perhaps they were cruel to it and that is why it acts up with people on horses. The emu has shown no fear of humans or animals and has actively chased, pecked at, kicked up at horses and their riders. It has created dangerous situations that have led to falls, serious injury and near accidents. Riders have expressed concern not only for their own safety but for the well being of their animals and other park users.
Unlike wild emus, this individual has been habituated to human contact, raised in captivity and escaped to the park. As a result, it lacks natural fear responses, increasing risk of aggressive encounters.
OUR CONCERNS
While we appreciate the park's role in wildlife conservation, this emu poses a serious risk to public safety. It's behaviour is not typical of wild emus and suggests a need for professional assessment and relocation.
We respectfully ask that the following actions are taken:
- Immediate evaluation of the emu's behaviour and threat level
- Relocation to a suitable sanctuary or managed enviroment Australia Zoo / Woodfordia have offered to take him
We advocate for a solution that protects both the safety of the public and the welfare of the emu. Thank You for addressing this matter promptly and and responsibly.
Please sign and share this petition to help make Parklands Conservation Park safe and welcoming for everyone.
