Remove Age verification online in favour of more privacy centered method

Remove Age verification online in favour of more privacy centered method

The Issue

In recent years, the internet has become an integral part of our children's lives, but while it offers countless opportunities for learning and engagement, it also poses significant risks.

I've been increasingly concerned about the growing number of data breaches on websites that require age verification. These breaches have resulted in the theft and sale of personal information to cybercriminals, putting both adults and children at risk of scams and identity theft.

The current system often requires individuals to provide sensitive personal information to third-party companies, which has proven to be unsafe. This not only compromises their privacy but also burdens them with the fear of their data being mishandled. It's time we shift our approach and place the control back into the hands of parents, where it belongs.

We propose that the government mandates all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to set up an easy-to-access parental control page via their internet routers. This page would allow parents to manage their child's internet access by blocking specific sites with a password known only to them as the bill payer. This system offers a more secure and personal alternative, allowing parents to decide what content is appropriate and ensuring their child’s online safety without the need for third-party age verification.

This approach does not only protect privacy but also empowers families to take charge of internet safety, creating a personalized online experience that reflects individual family values. An ISP-integrated parental control system would be straightforward, user-friendly, and effective in keeping children away from unwanted materials.

By signing this petition, you are advocating for a more secure, private, and family-centered approach to internet safety. Together, we can influence change and make online experiences safer for children while protecting the privacy and data of all internet users. Please sign this petition to support our call for action. Let's make the internet a safer space for our children without having to sacrifice our privacy.
