Removal of Unnecessary Alley Gates in Los Angeles

Removal of Unnecessary Alley Gates in Los Angeles
The Issue
As residents and businesses located between 74th to 76th between Western Ave and Hobart Blvd in Los Angeles, we are facing a significant issue due to the locked/blocked alley gates. These gates, which were previously accessible, are now locked/blocked and causing an inconvenience for all of us. We cannot use the alley except through one end to gain access or exit. This situation is not only affecting us but also utility workers, sanitation trucks and the business that require parking or accessing the business through the alley and when accessed they are frequently must back out and that is the only way the sanitation and utility vehicles can get out because there is no where to turn around and this is an exceptionally long alley covering addresses starting from 7400 to 7531.
The problem extends beyond mere inconvenience. It's a matter of public safety as well. In case of emergencies, these locked/blocked gates could delay first responders from reaching people in need, quickly.
According to a report by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), response times can significantly impact outcomes during emergencies (source: NFPA). Given that our alleys are blocked/locked off by these unnecessary gates, it's clear that we're at risk.
We urge city officials in Los Angeles to remove these alley gates promptly for better accessibility and safety for all residents and businesses bordered between Western Ave on the West, 74th to 76th streets alleyway and Hobart Blvd on the East. Please sign this petition if you believe in creating safer neighborhoods through improved access.
