Removal of Hostile architecture in our city.

The Issue

Hi! I'm Zhaira Guba Manuel and I'm a junior in high-school who's working on my Civics Learning Project and I appreciate your time to sign this petition. I am raising awareness on how anti-homeless architecture is inhumane and how it's affecting people badly. For instance, the divided benches you see around our city are one of the examples for anti-homeless architecture, a.k.a hostile architecture. Homeless people are the main people who's affected by this because when people can't find anywhere to sleep they might resort to sleeping on a street or a bench, with homeless shelters sometimes being unavailable due to overcrowding. In Chicago, an estimated 68,440 people were experiencing homelessness, according to the Chicago Coalition for Homelessness. When we build anti-homeless architecture, it shows a lack of care for our homeless population because they are considered to be undesirable by people who don’t deal with homelessness or poverty. If you have any questions you can email me at zmanuel1@cps.edu. Thank you!
