The Issue

We, the undersigned citizens of Ghana, are writing to formally petition for the removal of Jane Adukwei Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, along with her deputy, Eric Asare Bossman and member Salima Ahmed Tijani, from their positions. Our concerns are based on allegations of misuse of office, failure to report critical issues, inability to manage anticipated threats, and perceived partiality that undermines the integrity of the Electoral Commission.

1. Misuse of Office:It has come to our attention that there have been several instances where the actions and decisions of the EC leadership have raised questions about their commitment to impartiality and fairness. The perceived alignment of the EC with the current government has led to a lack of trust in the electoral process, which is fundamental to our democracy.

2. Failure to Report Missing BVD Machines:The failure to report the missing Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) is a serious concern. These machines are critical for ensuring the integrity of our electoral process. The lack of transparency and accountability in addressing this issue raises alarms about the EC’s ability to conduct free and fair elections.

3. Inability to Manage Anticipated Threats:Furthermore, the EC’s inability to effectively manage anticipated threats to the electoral process, including security concerns and gaps/errors , has compromised the safety and integrity of our elections. This lack of preparedness undermines public confidence in the EC’s capacity to oversee a credible electoral process.

4. Perceived Extension of the Current Government:The actions of the EC under the leadership of Jane Mensa and her deputies have led to concerns that the commission is acting as an extension of the current government rather than an independent body. This perception is detrimental to the democratic process and erodes public confidence in the electoral system. Examples include employing known NPP communicators as staff of the Electoral Commission.

In light of these concerns, we believe that the continued tenure of Jane Adukwei Mensa, Eric Asare Bossman, and Salima Ahmed Tijani is untenable. We urge the relevant authorities to investigate these allegations thoroughly and take appropriate action to uphold the integrity of the Electoral Commission.

We, therefore, request the following:

 1. A comprehensive investigation into the alleged misuse of office, failure to report missing BVD machines, and inability to manage anticipated threats.

 2. Immediate steps to ensure accountability and transparency within the Electoral Commission.

 3. Consideration of the removal of the current leadership if found culpable of the allegations.

We trust that you will treat this petition with the seriousness it deserves and take the necessary steps to restore faith in our electoral process.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
