Subject: Formal Request for Removal of Board President Camille Kohler

Dear Members of the Board and Community:

The studio is facing a pivotal moment. All director positions are currently unfilled, the Executive Director is preparing to depart, and there is ongoing staff turnover among both teachers and administrative personnel—despite an already critical shortage. Although student enrollment remains strong, the infrastructure needed to support those students is lacking.

The most recent recital highlighted the exceptional dedication of the small team of teachers and staff who, with minimal support, managed to deliver an impressive production. Their efforts underscore the potential that exists within the studio. It is clear that with stronger leadership and a more robust organizational structure, this team could continue to grow and succeed. Retaining this talent and providing the necessary support is essential to the studio’s future stability and success.

For the continued success and stability of the studio, a change in board leadership is necessary. We respectfully request the removal of the current Board President, Camille Kohler, to allow for the growth of a more collaborative and supportive environment. Our goal remains to foster a nurturing space where our children can thrive, and strong, effective leadership is essential to achieving that vision.

This petition is to formally request the removal of Camille Kohler from her position as President of the Board of Anchorage Classical Ballet Academy, effective immediately or at the earliest opportunity permitted under the Academy’s bylaws and governance procedures.

This request is made after thoughtful consideration and is based on concerns regarding Ms. Kohler’s conduct and leadership, which we believe are not in alignment with the responsibilities and expectations of the position. There have been ongoing issues related to communication, decision-making transparency, and organizational alignment.

In the best interest of Anchorage Classical Ballet Academy, its students, staff, and community, we believe new leadership is necessary to ensure the board’s effectiveness, restore trust, and move the organization forward in a positive and unified direction.

We respectfully request that this matter be added to the agenda for the next board meeting and handled in accordance with all applicable bylaws and policies governing board leadership and officer roles.

Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Parents of Anchorage Classical Ballet Academy

Responded
The Anchorage Classical Ballet Academy Board of Directors appreciates the dedication and passion that our parents and supporters have for our organization. As a follow up on a parent survey that was sent to all parents of the studio, the Board received no evidence of any wrongdoing by our President, Camille Kohler. At this time, the Board will not present a motion for removing Ms. Kohler from the President seat and will re-focus our efforts on revitalizing our dance program and preparing for the Summer Ballet Intensive and upcoming season with our new Executive Director taking the charge. Thank you for completing the survey and being honest about your concerns (and compliments!) about the programs at ACBA. We've had a flurry of activity the past couple of weeks as we settled on the status of the outgoing Executive Director and remaining Board members and are excited to announce that we have a new Executive Director at the helm. We hope to announce our new Artistic Director in early July. As always, the Board is committed to ensuring that ACBA is able to provide quality instruction in an environment that is supportive for your dancers and are excited about the upcoming season. Please look for exciting announcements about the additions to our staff once offers and acceptances have been finalized.
