Petition for Improved Traffic Safety in Our Co-op Community

Petition to the City of Greater Sudbury and the Board of Directors of Palace Place

We, the undersigned residents, family members, friends, and supporters, respectfully request that the City of Greater Sudbury and the Board of Directors of Palace Place take immediate action to improve traffic safety within our community by installing stop signs and implementing additional traffic-calming measures.

Our co-op is home to many children, families, seniors, and pedestrians who deserve to feel safe while walking, playing, riding bicycles, and travelling through the neighbourhood. Residents have ongoing concerns about speeding, failure to yield, and the lack of adequate traffic control.

Following the heartbreaking loss of six-year-old Havyn Winter Kay, our community has been forever changed. While nothing can undo this tragedy, we believe meaningful safety improvements can help reduce the risk of future incidents and better protect everyone who lives in and visits our neighbourhood.

We respectfully request that the City of Greater Sudbury and the Board of Directors:

Conduct a comprehensive traffic safety assessment of our co-op community.

Install stop signs at appropriate intersections and high-risk locations.
Review the placement of speed limit signs and consider additional traffic-calming measures, such as speed humps or raised crosswalks, where appropriate.
Improve pedestrian safety through enhanced signage, road markings, and any other measures recommended by traffic safety professionals.
Consult with residents to identify areas of concern and develop long-term solutions.

This petition is about prevention. It is about creating a safer community where children can play, families can walk, and residents can travel without unnecessary risk.

Every child deserves to come home safely.

We ask that our concerns be heard and that meaningful action be taken to improve safety within our community.
