The Issue

Milli was not just my son; he was a bright light in the lives of everyone who knew him. At just 15, he showed kindness, hope, and so much potential for the future. But on that tragic day, June 2, 2024, his life was stolen in a way no child or community should endure. His death isn’t just a personal loss; it’s a reminder of how violence is becoming an unacceptable norm in our neighborhoods.

Milli wasn’t just my son,he was a source of pure joy and love for everyone who knew him. Family and friends have so many incredible stories about him, funny moments that made us laugh until our sides hurt, and unforgettable times that remind us of his kind heart. Milli had a passion for basketball, looking up to his big brother as his inspiration on and off the court. He loved his siblings and his family fiercely, and his bond with me, his mom, was unshakable. Milli’s smile had this magic,it could light up any room and lift the spirits of anyone who might be feeling down. He brought people together in a way that only someone with a truly special soul could. His memory deserves to be honored, not just for who he was to us as a family, but for the impact he had on his community. Through this street renaming, we can preserve that light and use it to inspire change.

The denial of this decision doesn’t just hurt Milli’s family and close friends,it sends a message to the children who witnessed that tragedy and to the community as a whole. These kids, who carry the weight of what they saw that day, deserve to believe that their voices matter and that change is possible. When we lose the chance to honor Millie, we risk telling them there’s no hope, that they’re forever in danger. This isn’t just about one street,it’s about showing every child and every citizen that their lives, their voices, and their futures are worth fighting for. By renaming this street, we can create a symbol of hope, healing, and the power of standing together as a community. Let's make it a reality.
