The television series Freddy’s Nightmares is a spin-off of the A Nightmare on Elm Street film franchise. It ran from 1988 to 1990 and starred Robert Englund in his signature role as Freddy Krueger.

For a long time, the series was mostly considered lost media. Despite occasional television airings it was unavailable in its entirety on any physical format.

Now that the soundtrack for the television series has been released on vinyl and both seasons are available to stream on Tubi, it’s time to take the next logical step.

We’re asking Warner Bros to remaster and/or release the series on physical media. Obviously it would be great to have whatever transfers are available on a disc. But it’s worth showing our interest in having the best release possible.

There appears to be several options for remastering the series:

1.) Warner Bros locates the original 16mm negatives the film was shot with and re-edits every episode from scratch.

2.) Warner Bros uses their original tape transfers of the episodes. The Tubi transfers appear to be taken from broadcast television tapes. They include slight edits that some episodes released on VHS didn’t receive. As such, the original tape transfers would not only be uncut - but they’d have slightly cleaner quality as well. Possibly even enough to upscale them.

Freddy’s Nightmares is a major piece of the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise’s history. It deserves to be preserved and recognized for its achievements and the unique time period it represents.
