Let’s begin with how the live action story based on what we’re seeing in trailers doesn’t match a single thing from the original Monster High Series. Clawdeen Wolf for example is teased to be with Deuce when all fans were hooked to her being Lesbian. Characters also look nothing like they should and their personalities are different. Clawdeen Wolf is a darkskin with a New York accent, Draculaura is a Middle Eastern/Armenian character with an accent, Cleo is an Egyptian that is best friends with the ghoul group, Lagoona Blue isn’t even blue or Australian, and Frankie is blue. Moving to the discussion of clothing. Monster Hugh embodied fashion, originality, and creativity. None of those things are brought to the table in this live action. Understanding that this is aimed towards younger audiences so the clothing must be more PG, but the fashion is just completely erased and feels lazy. We can clearly tell that they are trying to be more progressive but it’s not working. Their introduction to these progressive ideas are too unrealistic and debatable. The whole reason Monster High is what it is today is because of its characters and fashion. Without the original piece it seems like a new attempt at something that isn’t going to work out. I know this doesn’t mean they will remake it but maybe raising awareness to them about how Monster High fans feel could prepare them for any backlash.
