Relocate the walkathon from Elmwood Park

The Issue

As a long-time resident of Elmwood Park, I have cherished the sense of community and the vibrant neighborhood we call home. However, each year, the annual walkathon that takes place in our area has become an obstacle to the everyday lives of residents. I am deeply concerned about the disruption it causes, and I am asking for your support to move this event to a more suitable location, such as Belle Isle or a nearby state park.

The walkathon, while undoubtedly a noble event, effectively blocks in residents, preventing us from participating in our daily activities, such as going to work, attending church, and engaging in community events. More alarmingly, it obstructs critical emergency services, including the fire department and ambulance access, which poses a serious threat to our safety and well-being. No resident should feel trapped in their own home, unable to leave or receive emergency services if needed.

In the spirit of community harmony and respect for all residents, I am proposing that the walkathon be relocated to a venue that accommodates the event's goals without infringing on the rights of Elmwood Park's residents. Location options, such as Belle Isle, offer ample space while keeping the event accessible and enjoyable for all participants.

By moving the walkathon to a less intrusive location, we ensure that community members can freely enjoy their residences without unnecessary disruption. Additionally, the safety of our neighborhood is preserved, and emergency services remain unhindered.

I kindly ask you to stand with us in urging the walkathon organizers and local authorities to consider this reasonable request for the benefit of all. It's time to ensure that Elmwood Park remains the accessible and harmonious community we all cherish. Please sign this petition to support a healthier balance between community events and resident well-being.
