My father, Victor F. Nabors, proudly served in the United States Air Force, completing two deployments to Vietnam. His sacrifice and service were monumental, and like many Vietnam veterans, he deserves to be honored and remembered by his family and peers at the Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.

However, heroes like my father and their families face increasing challenges to pay tribute due to age and health limitations along with financial constraints. Traveling long distances has become an insurmountable obstacle for many veterans and their loved ones, who wish to see the names of their comrades etched on the wall. They have already sacrificed once; they should not have to sacrifice their ability to remember their experiences and honor their fallen friends.

Every veteran deserves the chance to stand before the memorial in homage to whom they served alongside, without being restricted by distance or mobility. That is why we propose the  Veterans Memorial Wall be made more accessible by establishing a traveling exhibit. This exhibit would go to major cities across the nation, allowing veterans everywhere the opportunity to connect with this treasured symbol of history and respect.

In recent years, mobile memorials have proven successful in capturing the hearts and attention of the communities they visit, such as The Moving Wall and The Wall That Heals. They bring solace and remembrance to those unable to make the journey to the permanent installation in Washington, D.C.

Some veterans are entering their twilight years, and the window of opportunity for them to visit the memorial is closing fast. The sacrifice of these veterans, like my father, made at such personal cost to them and their families, should be acknowledged by bringing the memorial to them. This nation owes a debt of gratitude to those who served, and offering mobility of the memorial is a small way to honor that debt.

Let us make sure no veteran or their family is deprived of the chance to pay tribute. We urge the government and private organizations to collaborate in expanding the traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial Exhibit.
