The Issue
It's time to MOVE THE SCARSDALE 5G CELL TOWER that shares a street with AT LEAST EIGHT EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS, most of which are populated by young children! At a very MINIMUM: The 5G UNITS MUST BE REMOVED from the cell tower - NOW!
We, the concerned parents, teachers, and students of Hawthorn School, WillowWood School, Metamorphosis Greek Orthodox School, La Citadelle International Academy of Arts and Science, Top Kids Education Center, Sanford International College, Canada After School Group, and The Giles School are writing to express our deep concerns about the placement of a 5G cell tower at 41 Scarsdale Road, in *extremely close proximity* to at least eight educational institutions (directly across the street from LaCitadelle). We kindly request immediate public and private attention and intervention in addressing this pressing matter!
While we acknowledge the importance of technological advancements and the benefits that 5G technology can offer, it is essential to balance these advancements with the safety and well-being of our children and the dedicated teachers who serve our community. We firmly believe that the placement of a 5G cell tower in such close proximity to our schools poses significant health risks, and we would like to draw your attention to the following scientific facts and studies that support our concerns:
1. Electromagnetic Radiation (EMF): Numerous studies have raised concerns about the potential health effects of exposure to electromagnetic radiation emitted by cell towers. These concerns include an increased risk of various health problems, such as cancer, neurological disorders, and reproductive issues, especially in children and individuals with prolonged exposure.
2. Children’s Vulnerability: Children are more vulnerable to the potential health risks of EMF radiation due to their developing nervous systems and smaller bodies. There is evidence suggesting that exposure to EMF radiation may have a more significant impact on their health and development.
3. Cumulative Exposure: The proliferation of wireless technology and the increasing density of cell towers expose individuals to higher cumulative levels of EMF radiation. The placement of a 5G tower near our schools adds to this cumulative exposure and raises additional concerns.
4. Precautionary Principle: In light of these concerns, many countries and organizations have adopted the precautionary principle, advocating for a more cautious approach when it comes to the placement of cell towers, especially near sensitive areas like schools.
We, the undersigned, urge elected officials Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow, and Don Valley East City Councillor Jon Burnside to consider these scientific facts and take immediate action to relocate the 5G cell tower away from our schools to ensure the safety and well-being of our children, teachers, and the entire school community.
We request that a comprehensive risk assessment be conducted to evaluate the potential health impacts of the current tower’s placement and explore alternative locations that minimize exposure to EMF radiation.
We thank you for your attention to this matter and look forward to prompt response and action in addressing our concerns. Our primary goal is to create a safe and healthy learning environment for our children, and we believe that relocating the 5G cell tower is a crucial step in achieving that goal.
