The Issue

We, the undersigned, are concerned residents, business owners, tenants, and members of the York–Eglinton community. We respectfully call on the City of Toronto, CreateTO, and Councillor Mike Colle (Ward 8 – Eglinton–Lawrence) to relocate the proposed supportive housing shelter at 2204–2212 Eglinton Avenue West to a more appropriate and balanced location.

While we support the City’s mission to address homelessness through supportive housing, this specific location raises serious concerns related to urban compatibility, business disruption, and residential stability.

Our Concerns Include:
- No consultation with immediately affected residents or commercial neighbours
- Lack of on-site parking, loading space, or outdoor gathering area
- Direct adjacency to family-owned restaurants and small businesses already struggling due to LRT construction
- High risk of tenant loss and reduced rental demand at adjacent new developments
- No clear operational transparency, security strategy, or Good Neighbour Agreement in place

Safety Concerns for Our Neighbourhood
🚨 Increased foot traffic without proper supervision
🚨 No safety buffer to homes and businesses
🚨 Litter and image concerns impacting local business
🚨 No clear 24/7 onsite management plan
🚨 No dedicated access for emergency services
🚨 Increased risks for seniors, children, and vulnerable residents
🚨 Serious security concerns for nearby families and vulnerable community members

  • We Urge the City to:
    - Defer approval of the Zoning By-law Amendment
    - Conduct a full local economic and residential impact assessment
    - Work with the community to identify a more suitable location with proper facilities and urban compatibility

Supportive housing must succeed — and that requires placing it in areas with adequate space, services, and infrastructure without overwhelming adjacent residents and businesses.

Call to Action:
Add your name to this petition to demand that Toronto City Council prioritize thoughtful, balanced city planning — and protect the future of the Eglinton West corridor.
