The Issue

I have been living in Springfield, MO, for many years, and in that time, my neighborhood has always been a peaceful and safe place where my family and neighbors could enjoy our community. However, the presence of the O'Reilly Center in our residential area has dramatically changed this dynamic. I have personally experienced the distress caused by an increasing number of individuals sleeping on sidewalks, lingering around the neighborhood, and unfortunately, engaging in theft.

In the past year alone, I have had numerous items stolen from my property. My neighbors have endured similar ordeals, with theft becoming an all-too-common occurrence in our community. Those responsible are often individuals seeking shelter or support from the nearby O'Reilly Center, highlighting an urgent need for action. Homelessness is a complex social issue, but placing the center in a residential area like ours puts residents and those seeking assistance in vulnerable positions.

The safety concerns transcend personal. When people are sleeping on sidewalks or wandering through streets, it becomes a danger not just for them but for everyone in the neighborhood. The walking paths should be safe and accessible for families, children, and the elderly, not marked by the unfortunate sight of people in distress.

We call upon local authorities and decision-makers to consider relocating the O'Reilly Center to a more appropriate location. By moving the center to a non-residential area, we can still support individuals in need without compromising the safety and peace of our community. Solutions such as providing transportation options for those visiting the center can help continue the support without impacting residential neighborhoods.

Community members are increasingly concerned about the rise in disturbances and crime linked to the center's current location. Your voice can make a difference in returning our community to a place of comfort and security for all its residents.

Please help us by signing this petition. Together, we can urge the appropriate agencies to take action and relocate the O'Reilly Center to a location that better serves everyone involved.
