The Issue:

The Earth Goddess sculpture has certainly sparked conversation in St Austell. Art is meant to challenge, provoke and inspire debate — and in that sense, it has succeeded. However, for many residents it has also come to represent a deeper concern: a feeling that their voices were not fully heard in decisions about our town.

This proposal is not about rejecting creativity or culture. It is about restoring trust and ensuring that the town centre reflects the identity, history and pride of the community it serves.

The Proposal:

We, the newly formed Town Team, propose exploring the relocation of the Earth Goddess to a more suitable setting — such as a town park or a destination like the Eden Project — where it may be better appreciated in context.

If there is clear public support, we will work constructively with the Town Council and relevant partners to assess feasibility, costs and potential locations. Should council funding not be available, we would explore community-led fundraising options.

This is about listening. It is about engagement. And it is about shaping a town centre that feels like ours.
