Recently, a scheduled race through downtown Jersey City forced me to cancel a tennis lesson for my daughter on a Sunday morning. This incident has made it abundantly clear - our community is regularly disrupted by these events that block off our streets and halt our everyday activities. Due to them, ambulatory services, personal appointments, children’s sports events and several other activities often hang in the balance. Without our consent, we are compelled to pause our lives and adapt our schedules to cater for these marathons.

The simplest and most effective solution is to move these marathons and 5k races out of downtown Jersey City and towards sports-friendly venues like Liberty State Park. The Park's expansive open spaces and amenities, including a five-mile waterfront pedestrian walkway, provide a more suitable and aesthetic location for such racing events, causing minimal disturbance to city residents. The park covers 1,212 acres, more than sufficient to accommodate large events (source: NJ Division of Parks and Forestry).
