"Relocate KU School of Engineering Graduation!"

The Issue

As a member of the Class of 2024 at the KU School of Engineering, I am deeply disappointed by the current limitations imposed on our graduation ceremony. After my class endured a challenging year with no high school graduation in 2020 due to COVID-19, it is disheartening to learn that we are only allowed three tickets to give to family for our college graduation in the spring of 2024. This restriction prevents many families and friends from sharing in this important milestone.

Graduation is a significant event that symbolizes years of hard work, dedication, and personal growth. It should be an inclusive celebration where graduates can share their achievements with their loved ones without unnecessary limitations. Unfortunately, due to ongoing construction at our usual venue, Allen Fieldhouse, these restrictions have been put in place.

While we understand the need for construction and its impact on available space, it is crucial to find an alternative location that can accommodate all graduating students' families and friends adequately. By doing so, we can ensure that every graduate has the opportunity to celebrate this momentous occasion surrounded by those who have supported them throughout their academic journey.

To support our cause for a more inclusive graduation ceremony at KU School of Engineering, let us consider some relevant facts:

1. Importance of Family Support: Research shows that family support significantly contributes to student success during their academic journey so that family should be able to attend graduation and continue to support their students.

2. Impact on Mental Health: Graduation ceremonies play a vital role in boosting graduates' mental well-being by providing closure and recognition of their achievements.

3. Economic Benefits: Hosting larger graduation ceremonies benefits local businesses as visiting families often spend money on accommodations, dining out, shopping, etc., thus stimulating the local economy

By relocating our engineering graduation ceremony to an alternative venue capable of accommodating all attendees comfortably such as the David Booth Memorial Stadium, we can ensure that every graduate has the opportunity to celebrate their achievements with their loved ones.

We kindly request the KU School of Engineering administration to consider our plea and work towards finding a suitable alternative location for our graduation ceremony in order to let all friends and family celebrate. Let us come together as a community to create an inclusive and memorable event that reflects the hard work and dedication of the School of Engineering Class of 2024.

Sign this petition to support our cause and make a difference in the lives of graduating students at KU School of Engineering. Together, we can ensure that no student is deprived of sharing this special moment with their families and friends.

Thank you for your support!
