Relocate Iceland from Blatchington Road Hove - For The Safety Of Our School & Residents
The Issue
Please help us put a stop to Iceland and support us in calling for them to be relocated.
Iceland on Blatchington Road Hove has become extremely problematic for local residents and St Andrews Primary School. They are making the area dangerous for pedestrians and are posing huge health and safety issues for children and families trying to get to and from school.
There have been repeated complaints from residents and the school over last few years about their misconduct and they have failed to listen to those affected.
The store makes deliveries to the front and rear of the store from 4.15am until 10.30pm which wakes up and disturbs local residents, many of which are families with small children. The noise levels are unbearable and despite many requests they have made no changes. The council have monitored the noise levels which has been proven to exceed what is acceptable in a residential area and in unsociable hours.
Since Covid they have been carrying out home deliveries from this small store which is not equipped for such an operation. They do not have a loading bay big enough for any of their vehicles. This has resulted in articulated lorries and tens of delivery vans parked in permit bays, on double yellows and parked dangerously in the surrounding previously quiet residential streets including Haddington Road, Malvern and Belfast Street. This prevents cars and other traffic being able to pass safely as they block the roads. The delivery vans also manoeuvre and beep throughout the day, disturbing neighbours and the school.
Most dangerously the lorries also make deliveries at school drop off times. They make dangerous manoeuvres across the streets mounting the curbs and have previously caused severe damage to the pavements. They block the pathways where Malvern Street meets Belfast street creating a sizeable blind spot for parents and children crossing to get to school. Many times there have been close calls with pedestrians nearly being hit. Again many parents and the school have complained about the impact and near misses and they have done nothing to remedy this.
They have flood lights on top of their building that shine into the bedrooms of houses opposite. These can be switched off but they leave them on despite requests.
To top this off they have members of staff who stand to the back of the store shouting and swearing, throwing cigarette butts on the street. Neighbours and the school are able to hear this foul language and frequently witness this antisocial behaviour, again the many complaints directly to the store manager and their head office have gone ignored.
We have lots of photographic and video evidence and we want the council to listen and take action against them. They are devaluing our properties, are having a huge impact on the school and are impacting on the quality of life of local residents, and families.
Please help us put a stop to Iceland taking over our streets, we don’t want to live, work and learn in an Iceland carpark! They are more suited to a larger site or an industrial estate.
