THANK YOU for signing and sharing!
I thought I would share an update about the city council meeting last night. The owner did speak and gave assurances that he would follow laws and high safety standards. While I do believe him, he still offered NO reason or excuse for choosing this location, firmly settling my belief it was done for the attention and the strong feelings it raises within our community.
I want to reiterate that, no matter what our individual stances are on guns, gun ownership, and gun control laws, this petition IS NOT about taking away anyone's gun rights. We are parents of extremely young children, trying to protect them the best way we can see. This issue is not about the guns, it is the location of the gun store directly within a school zone. Ideally we want the store in a different location, but we also want answers as to HOW a store such as this was ALLOWED to slip through so many cracks in the first place. How do we prevent this same situation in the future?
Again, I urge you to email your district councilperson, if merely to say "Hey, I'm a Madison citizen and concerned about this issue." Ask them their thoughts on how to remedy the problem. Ask how they plan to prevent it from happening to our new schools opening soon. Remind them that this is their opportunity to serve their community by protecting our children. We have this chance to be PROACTIVE, not reactive.
Please do not hesitate to contact me directly at kashley.singleton@gmail.com if you need assistance or can provide further information you think might help.
And finally, if you wish to watch the council meeting from last night, here is a link to do so (comments from the public regarding Rocket City Armory begin approximately one hour into the video): https://youtu.be/X1HjohnLZV4
