Today I'm asking you to send at least one email, even if you have previously.
Take 5 minutes and write an email to one or all of the email addresses I've provided below. Tell them that the location of this store is a horrible idea and threatens the physical and mental safety of our children. If they continue to do nothing, they should be ashamed.
Recently, a school in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana dealt with a similar situation, a gun store opening directly across from a school playground. The Parish Council heard and responded to their community's anger and outrage and passed a new zoning rule that prohibits firearms dealers from setting up shop within 1,000 feet of a school. https://www.wdsu.com/article/jefferson-parish-council-approves-zoning-measure-to-stop-new-firearm-shops-from-opening-near-schools/43586921
Join me in requesting that Madison City Council pass that same rule. In today's email, either send them the above news link or ask them to research the Jefferson Parish gun zoning rule and implore them to find a way to apply it to our community.
It should be common sense to not sell guns next to a preschool and an elementary school, but if we can convince the Madison City Council to pass this zoning rule, it will protect all of the other schools in our city from encountering this situation in the future.
