Relocate ECU Kinesiology Department's Graduation Back to Minges Coliseum

The Issue

As dedicated students in the Kinesiology Department at East Carolina University, we have spent the majority of our college education within the walls of Minges and Ward. These buildings, where we have dedicated countless hours to our studies, have become much more than just classrooms - they are a symbol of our journey, our dedication, and the education that we have worked so hard to attain. The expectation of celebrating one of the most significant milestones in our academic career, our graduation, in Minges Arena, has been a cherished part of our college journey. Therefore, the decision to move the graduation ceremony to the Student Center ballrooms, a location less significant to our academic journey, is deeply disheartening to us.
It is essential to reflect that a graduation ceremony is not just a formal event, it is a celebration of years of hard work and dedication. As such, the location of the event can significantly impact the meaningfulness of the ceremony. The fact that Minges and Ward have been our academic homes for the past two to three years - makes Minges Coliseum the ideal location for our graduation ceremony.
Consequently, we urge the responsible authorities at ECU to reconsider their decision and move the Kinesiology Department's graduation ceremony back to Minges Coliseum. By doing so, they would be honoring the sentimental value attached to these buildings and acknowledging our connection and dedication to our study. It's not just a matter of convenience; it's about preserving the tradition and significance that the change of the location has threatened to disregard.
Therefore, we ask that you sign this petition to support our call to move the Kinesiology Department's graduation back to Minges Coliseum. Don't just sign for us – sign for every student whose graduation ceremony may be affected by similar decisions. Sign to honor the tradition, the dedication, and the journey of every student.
