My home town of Banbury, a historical and significant area of the UK, has been increasingly impacted by the surge of out of town retailers. It is personal to me, as it is heart-wrenching to watch a thriving local economy being overshadowed. This is why I propose to relocate the Banbury Market to the former Debenhams site.

This move does not merely represent a geographical shift of the market, but symbolizes a fresh start for local businesses. My suggestion is to create individual spaces with affordable rates - free for the initial year, reduced for the subsequent 6 months, and affordable yet full rates from the second year on. Incentives should be provided to encourage new and existing businesses to root themselves in these spaces.

Given that SMEs account for approximately three fifths of the employment in the UK private sector (House of Commons Briefing Paper Number 06152, 28 Dec 2020), this initiative could significantly boost local job opportunities and rejuvenate our town's economy. It represents a sensible strategy that will positively impact every person living in Banbury.
