The Issue

Wabasha, Minnesota, a charming and vibrant community, has long been a cherished home. As someone who calls Wabasha home, I am deeply concerned about the proposed apartment complex set to be built at the corner of Second Street and Alleghany Avenue in downtown Wabasha. This area is a bustling hub for both locals and visitors, with businesses, restaurants, and cultural attractions that contribute to the unique character and economic vitality of our town. However, downtown Wabasha also struggles with limited parking space, an issue that impacts local businesses and the accessibility of our beloved town center.

The construction of this apartment complex threatens to exacerbate these parking issues, further straining the limited spaces available and potentially discouraging people from coming downtown to support local businesses. For the growth and prosperity of Wabasha, it is imperative to balance new developments with the existing needs and infrastructure of the community.

I believe there is a solution that benefits both new residents and current business owners. We propose relocating the planned apartments to an alternative site where ample parking is available or can be developed. This would not only preserve the vitality of our downtown area but also enhance our local economy by maintaining easy access for shoppers, diners, and tourists who contribute greatly to our community.

The future of Wabasha depends on thoughtful urban planning that respects the needs of everyone involved. I urge city planners and developers to reconsider the location of this apartment project to ensure Wabasha continues to thrive while accommodating growth wisely.

Please join me in advocating for a more strategic placement of this development by signing this petition. Together, we can help ensure Wabasha remains a thriving and accessible community for all.
