Relocate and Protect the Birds at Cook Park Aviary
Relocate and Protect the Birds at Cook Park Aviary
The issue
As someone who loves animals and visits the Cook Park Aviary often, I’m genuinely heartbroken by the conditions these birds are living in.
Over time, many of us have witnessed rats inside enclosures, inconsistent access to fresh food and water, and a serious lack of ongoing care. Some birds appear unwell or injured, yet proper follow up treatment and attention often seem to be missing. Vets have expressed concerns that some of the birds’ beaks suggest poor nutrition and long term inadequate care.
Vets have also confirmed that sick or injured birds may be taken in for an initial appointment, but often do not receive the follow up treatment they require. This is concerning for animals that rely entirely on humans for their wellbeing.
An investigation by the NSW Department of Primary Industries is already underway, with a timeline and evidence documenting multiple reported occasions of neglect and welfare concerns. These are intelligent, social animals and they deserve so much better than the conditions they’re currently living in. This situation is not only upsetting, it’s unacceptable.
We are calling on the council to take action by relocating the birds to a sanctuary or suitable facility where they can receive proper care, enrichment and ongoing veterinary treatment. These birds deserve the opportunity to live safely and comfortably. Relocating them is not only the compassionate choice, it’s the responsible one.
Please help us push for change by signing and sharing this petition. Every signature helps to do better for these birds and ensure they finally receive the care and quality of life they deserve.
