Relocate and expand Union's animal shelter

Relocate and expand Union's animal shelter
The Issue
Every time I visit the local animal shelter in Union, New Jersey, my heart breaks a little more. The shelter, meant to be a sanctuary for helpless and frightened animals, is ironically situated next to a shooting range. The constant barrage of noise terrifies the animals, causing them stress and anxiety in an environment that should be peaceful and comforting.
Animals, much like humans, deserve to live in tranquility. It is cruel to subject them to loud, terrifying noises every day. The tiny animal shelter is currently not only a place of refuge but has tragically become a source of stress for these innocent beings. When frightened, animals often become unadoptable due to increased anxiety and behavioral issues, only worsening the homeless animal population crisis. This is shameful and it doesn't need to be this way.
Union, NJ, is experiencing significant growth with the development of numerous apartment complexes. As both the human and animal populations rise, it becomes increasingly important to expand our animal services to meet these growing needs. A larger facility, situated far from disruptive noise, is crucial to providing a safe haven for these animals.
Investing in a new, strategically-located animal shelter would provide numerous benefits. Not only will it ensure that animals are healthier and happier, but it will also make them more adoptable. Additionally, there will be enough space and resources for them. Finally, it showcases our community's commitment to caring for the most vulnerable living beings among us.
As taxpayers and residents, it is our responsibility to advocate for the welfare of all members of our community, including animals. A larger, appropriately located shelter is not just a necessity due to population growth, but a moral obligation to ensure that every living creature is treated with kindness and respect.
Join us in urging the local government and town planners to address this critical issue. By signing this petition, you can help voice the need for a better future for Union's animals and help them find peace and safety in a supportive community.
