The Issue

Our neighborhood in Lathrop, California is a haven for families seeking a peaceful, resort-style living environment. It is home to numerous families with small children, surrounded by parks, schools, and public pathways that are vital to the community's culture and way of life. We pride ourselves on the safety and tranquility it offers, and we are fighting to preserve this standard.

Recently, we have learned of an operation of a drug abuse and alcohol addiction facility within our residential area, and this has raised serious concerns among us, the residents. Residents were not consulted with or made aware of such a facility; we had no input or say in the matter. This is outside the norm and not aligned with the community's residential and commercial planning.

We are not against the healing and support process required for individuals battling alcohol and drug abuse, but rather, we believe structured facilities located in appropriate, specially-designated zones would provide a more suitable and safe environment for rehabilitation. Our neighborhood, characterized by its serene family settings, does not possess the infrastructure or services required to support such a facility without compromising our community's safety and integrity.

Neighborhoods like ours, designed with families and children in mind, should be protected from commercial enterprises that could drastically alter the dynamics and environment that residents have invested in and committed themselves to. The influx of traffic, potential safety risks, and the overall change in neighborhood character present significant concerns to homeowners and parents alike.

Petitioning against the establishment of a an alcohol and drug abuse facility in this area is not only about protecting property values, but more importantly, about safeguarding the quality of life for all residents, especially the children who play and study nearby. Perhaps there is another location within Lathrop or San Joaquin County that is better suited and equipped for such an important service, without adversely impacting the community.

We urge city planners, local government officials, and regulatory bodies to thoroughly evaluate this proposal, consider the long-term implications on our neighborhood, and identify more suitable locations where these facilities can operate with appropriate resources and minimal impact on residential areas.

Please join us in signing this petition to maintain the sanctity and safety of our cherished neighborhood. Let's work together to ensure that River Islands and Lathrop remains a secure and supportive community for all its families.
