Releasing of Darius Oliver on Parole from the Georgia Department of Corrections (Prison)

The Issue

Petition to help release Darius Oliver from prison on parole!

NO DONATIONS ARE NEEDED! Thanks for the support but keep your money!

I, Darius Oliver, am a former citizen of Atlanta, Georgia. I have been incarcerated since I was 18 years old and I am now 31 years of age. April 30, 2012 was the worst day of my life. I have been eligible for parole since 2019 and I have been denied parole due to lack of information about the process. I can honestly say I am thankful for the person that the Georgia Department of Corrections have allowed me to become. Even though, I must admit that this place has become very dangerous now. These 149 months have been a hourly roller coaster ride. During my incarceration time I’ve lost my grandparents but I happen to still have both of my parents support, two brothers, a younger sister, 3 nephews, a niece, a fiancée, and many other immediate family members that needs my presence.

I have job opportunities waiting on me as soon as I am released. I am the originator of the Nonprofit Organization “Building Back Up”. This company strives to help each and every individual with building back up, in any and every way possible, as I’ve done for myself. We strive to continue to host positive initiatives for communities of people, teach them, express love, and show support to people of all ages. My aspirations are to become a motivational speaker and a sport’s coach for the youth. I’ve experienced a tremendous amount of challenges and feel as the though I can relate to majority of the community and spread my guiding light throughout the available settings. I’ve worked on my teaching skills, my emotion control, my correct approach, my ability to follow orders, my leadership skills, my social development as well as my personal education.

I am a High School graduate that also received his GED while being incarcerated. Finishing top of the class and being the valedictorian has given me the opportunity to teach Mathematics to other inmates that may struggle to pass this subject. Before incarceration I was accepted into 3 colleges and my dream was to major in education and teach upperclass mathematics. I am very eager and ready for my second chance at being an upstanding citizen and I will forever be grateful for any support given.

At the mere age of 18, I just happened to be placed into a situation that I didn’t know how to handle. My initial charge was Murder. I went to trial and the grand jury panel found me guilty of the lesser included offense Voluntary Manslaughter. This incident took place in Cobb County and the Judge Adele Grubbs sentenced me to serve 25 years in prison, which was the maximum sentence for the offense. From the grand jury’s perspective of the evidence shown, I didn’t show any malice nor was this my intent. My public defender and I actually were pursuing the case in a self-defense manner.

Now I realize that to make it in life you must know how to manage situations, being that we will be faced with so many situations throughout a lifetime. Prison has taught me how to deal with conflict, whether it’s with the authority or another inmate. I’ve learned my lesson and take full responsibility for my actions. I give my sincere apology to anyone that has endured any pain from my actions or any pain throughout this entire situation. I’ve always been deeply remorseful and I still am to this very day. At a moment in my youthful days, I was becoming a product of my environment.

Being in this place and becoming a man has taught me that I can overcome my environment and create a path for myself. I am ready to fully devote my life to my family and my community. The change started with myself, then I started to positively affect people around me and now it’s time for me to impact the lives of the those that needs me most. Until Stratford Institute lost its certifications, I was taking a Child Psychology Course. I’m ready to be a parent myself and help other parents by providing more guidance on the love you give out, guidance on asking your kids more questions, lessons on instilling discipline and ways to monitor their behavior changes.

I need immediate actions towards this process. If things doesn’t change in my situation, I am scheduled to be released in 2037. Thank you dearly for the time and consideration that you took out to read this message. Help me fight for my freedom by signing this petition! My parole review is coming up very soon.
