Release the Dark Cut / Director’s Cut of Hocus Pocus (1993) #ReleaseHocusPocusCut
The Issue
Disney, we love Hocus Pocus and we want to celebrate its full legacy!
In 1993, Hocus Pocus started as a much darker, edgier film. The original vision had a heavier horror-comedy tone, and the cast (including Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy) spent six and a half months developing intense material. As Sarah Jessica Parker herself shared in a 1993 interview, Disney made a business decision to lighten the tone for a younger summer audience and cut a lot of the darker scenes. While this helped create the beloved Halloween classic we know today, many fans have long wondered what the original, spookier version looked like.
Now, with Hocus Pocus 3 officially moving forward for a wide theatrical release, the Sanderson Sisters returning, and the Pocusverse expanding with bigger magic, CGI, and lore (including Mother Witch as a major threat), the timing is perfect to give fans the full story.
We are asking Disney to:
• Release a “Dark Cut” or Director’s Cut of the original 1993 film (or at minimum, restore and include all deleted scenes as special features on a new 4K/Blu-ray release)
• Make the extended/darker material available on Disney+ as a bonus or alternate version
• Celebrate the film’s 33+ year journey from box office underdog to cultural phenomenon
This would be incredible fan service, similar to the Snyder Cut movement, and would perfectly hype the upcoming Hocus Pocus 3 theatrical release. It would also show appreciation for the original cast’s hard work and give longtime fans the complete picture of the Sanderson Sisters’ story.
If you’re a fan of Hocus Pocus, the Sanderson Sisters, or want to see more of the original vision, please sign and share! Let’s show Disney there’s real demand for #ReleaseHocusPocusCut.
Thank you, Disney — the witches are ready for their full story! 🧹🎃✨
