Petition updateRelease the Bodycam Footage of Jason Kilzer’s Shooting

🚨 PLEASE HELP US FIND AN ATTORNEY FOR JASON’S MOTHER AND DAUGHTER. 🚨

Sep 11, 2026

I am asking everyone following Jason Corey Kilzer’s case to help with something incredibly important.

Sheila Kilzer and Shelby Hedrick need an attorney.

On July 31, Jason’s mother and daughter filed a federal civil-rights and wrongful-death lawsuit themselves — pro se, without an attorney — because they were determined to keep fighting for answers surrounding Jason’s death.

But they should not have to fight this battle alone.

This is federal litigation against law-enforcement officers and government entities. It involves complicated procedural rules, deadlines, evidence, discovery, governmental defenses and issues that experienced federal civil-rights attorneys spend their careers handling.

A grieving mother and daughter should not lose their opportunity to have the evidence examined simply because they cannot afford to navigate that system alone.

The complaint makes extraordinarily serious allegations concerning what happened when Jason was killed on August 8, 2025. Sheila says she witnessed her son’s shooting. The complaint challenges critical portions of the official account and raises questions about the shooting, the scene afterward, the available video evidence and what has — and has not — been produced.

Those allegations deserve to be tested against the evidence in a courtroom.

We are not asking an attorney to blindly believe every allegation or promise an outcome.

We are asking an attorney to LOOK AT THE CASE.

We desperately need to reach someone experienced in:

• Federal civil-rights litigation
• Police use-of-force / officer-involved shootings
• Wrongful death
• Government and municipal liability
• §1983 litigation

We are specifically looking for an attorney or legal organization willing to consider pro bono representation, contingency representation, co-counseling, or another arrangement that would allow Sheila and Shelby to have qualified counsel.

U.S. District Court — Western District of Tennessee, Eastern Division
Shelby Paige Hedrick & Sheila Denise Kilzer
Case No. 1:26-cv-01170

If you are an attorney who practices in this area, PLEASE review this case.

If you know one, send this to them.

Tag law firms.
Tag legal organizations.
Tag journalists who may know attorneys covering police-accountability cases.

And if you know someone who knows someone — make the connection.

Sheila and Shelby should not have to walk into federal court alone.

Jason cannot advocate for himself.

His mother has been fighting for answers since the day she watched her son die.

Please help us make sure this family is heard.
