The Issue
Why This Petition?
September 13 (ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 13) is a landmark Kannada film — the first-ever movie dedicated to the nursing community. Directed by Dr. Rajah Balakrishna and produced by Ivan Nigli, this film tells the untold stories of nurses who form the backbone of our healthcare system. It is billed as "The Story of a Community."
Unfortunately, a large number of nurses and nursing students were unable to watch this film during its theatrical release:
Nursing students missed the opportunity because they were occupied with academic examinations during the release period.
Working nurses could not attend theatres due to demanding and irregular shift duties that leave little personal time.
Limited theatrical availability in many cities and towns further restricted access.
Our Request
We respectfully request Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Hon'ble Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Railways, Government of India, to:
Release September 13 on the Prasar Bharati OTT platform (WAVES) so that nurses and nursing students across India can watch it free of cost.
Schedule the release on 12th May (International Nurses Day) as a meaningful gesture of gratitude toward the nursing community.
Promote the film through Prasar Bharati's channels to ensure maximum reach among healthcare workers worldwide.
Why WAVES?
Prasar Bharati's OTT platform WAVES is free and accessible to all citizens, including those in rural and underserved areas. It is the ideal platform to ensure no nurse is left behind due to cost, geography, or work schedules.
Why 12th May?
International Nurses Day is celebrated every year on 12th May, the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale. Releasing this film on that day would be a powerful tribute to the millions of nurses serving our nation selflessly.
Nurses give their lives to caring for others. The least we can do is make sure they get to see the one film that tells their story.
