Roman, my beloved husband, is currently being held in I.C.E. detention despite having lived in the United States since the tender age of four, he is 41 now. Roman and his family arrived as refugees from the USSR, legally seeking the religious freedom and opportunities that America promises. At that time, they were issued green cards. Unfortunately, due to a mistake made during his teenage years (he committed a crime at age 19), Roman lost his green card and has since found himself in a legal limbo, labeled a stateless person.

ICE attempted to deport Roman when he lost his green card. However, Roman is a man without a country, with neither Russia nor Ukraine acknowledging him as one of their own, thus refusing to accept him. As a result, he was released due to failed deportation efforts.

On 8/1/25, during a typically routine appointment with ICE, he was detained and taken into I.C.E. custody. He spent two days sleeping on the cold concrete floor until he was transferred to a detention facility where he remains currently.

Despite these setbacks, Roman has rebuilt his life here. He holds a valid class C18 work permit and Real ID. Roman is a proud business owner who contributes to the local economy, and, above all, he is a dedicated father to our two precious daughters, aged 5 and 3.

Roman is not just a family man but also a devout member of our community. An active participant in our local church, he has developed strong ties and is cherished by all who know him. His detention is not only a personal affront but a blow to our community and family that relies on his presence and dedication.

Because of recent changes under the current administration, Roman can experience prolonged detention or worse, deportation to a third country that he has no ties to, like South Sudan.

This unjust detention disrupts the lives of his family, traumatizes his young daughters, and undermines the stability of a future Roman has painstakingly built. We call upon the relevant authorities to review Roman's case with compassion and justice.

Roman's story isn't just an immigrant's tale; it is a call for humanity in our immigration policy. Help us reunite a father with his children, a husband with his wife, and a man with the country that has been his home for almost his entire life. Sign this petition to free Roman from I.C.E. detention and allow him to continue his life with his family in the only land he calls home.
