Release Placentas to Birthing Mothers Before they spoil

The Issue

Weill Cornell Hospitals keep new mother's placentas in a fridge for 7 days before releasing them to their rightful owner, the Mother. By the time the Mother gets her placenta back, it has gone bad. Many women want to use their placenta to make capsules, smoothies, tinctures, and more to help them recover, make more milk for their baby, and avoid postpartum depression.

Keeping a placenta in the fridge for 7 days is not doing the hospital any good, it is only doing the Mothers harm and an injustice. I call on Amos Grunebaum, the Director of Obstetrics for all Cornell Hospitals, to change their placenta policy to release placentas to the Mother within 24 hours of giving birth. He will be doing a great service to both Mothers and Babies by doing this.

Currently there is mostly anecdotal research about this practice. Yet, all other mammals on Earth consume their placentas. Human women should also have this right if they want to.
