The Issue

My younger brother is in prison serving a life without parole sentence that we believe is unfairly severe. This is deeply personal to me because he hasn't committed a crime that justifies such a harsh penalty. My brother, who was involved in a violent incident, did not physically harm anyone, yet he has been handed a punitive sentence that is disproportionate to the crime he was accused of.

Yes him and the family are very sorry a life was loss and pray for their family for grace and mercy. Every day, families like ours hope for a justice system that administers fair and balanced judgments. It is heartbreaking to witness the stress and emotional toll this has taken on my family, especially knowing that my brother is not a danger to society. He is young, with a full life ahead of him, deserving of an opportunity to learn from his mistakes without facing overly severe consequences that could hinder his potential.

Statistics have shown that disproportionately long sentences for non-violent offenses do not contribute to rehabilitation or deterrence but instead strain judicial resources and taxpayer funds (source: The Sentencing Project). In many documented cases, overly harsh sentences result in recidivism, as they fail to address the root causes of the crime and impede the individual's reintegration into society.

We are asking for impunity and a re-evaluation of his sentence within the framework of justice and humanity. He should be given a chance at rehabilitation and to contribute positively to our community. Releasing him or reducing his sentence will not only benefit him but also help in restoring trust in our judicial process which should epitomize fairness and hope for change.

Please sign this petition to urge the authorities to review my brother’s case, reconsider his sentence, and provide him with a fair chance to reintegrate into society and be with his family who love and support him.
