The Issue

My father has been incarcerated for over 32 years in Winston-Salem, NC. After more than three decades, it is time to recognize the possibility of rehabilitation and allow him to reintegrate into society. He has served his time, and now he deserves a chance at freedom and the pursuit of a fulfilling life.

The average time served for serious offenses can vary, but many states consider parole and release long before three decades have passed. According to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics, the average time served by state prisoners released in 2018 was about 2.6 years, with violent offenders serving an average of 5.6 years. My father's continued incarceration far exceeds these averages.

Over the years, he has demonstrated exemplary behavior and has actively participated in rehabilitation programs, showing dedication to personal growth and reform. He has expressed deep remorse for past actions and has taken every opportunity to better himself, ready to contribute positively to society upon release.

Extended incarceration is not just a hardship on him, but on our family as well. We miss him every day, and the emotional toll is immeasurable. He's missed countless family milestones—birthdays, graduations, weddings—and these moments can never be recovered.

We believe in the justice system's capacity for mercy and understanding, and we are hopeful that it will see the potential for renewed life. By signing this petition, you are supporting not just my father, but the belief in second chances. Every signature is a step towards reuniting our family and showing that our community values compassion and rehabilitation.

Please join us in asking the authorities to review his case and consider his release. Sign the petition to bring my father back home, where he belongs.
